What happens

Carton, a man determined to find Roger Fabian, tracks him down in a native-quarter lodging house and offers him a job at a distant mine run by Sandy McGregor. Fabian, a former digger haunted by a mine cave-in two years earlier that killed thirty men, is reluctant to return but is persuaded by money and debt. At the remote Tabora mine he meets Clark, a stranger who reveals a personal grudge against him, and tensions rise as local natives grow hostile. Suspense, the radio anthology, presents The Digger in its October 9, 1956 broadcast, with Torin Thatcher in the lead role.

A native quarter with narrow dirty streets and a rooming house, then a remote mine at Tabora in a hot dusty valley.

Characters: Carton, Roger Fabian, Winky, Tisha, Sandy McGregor, Clark

Listen for: Clark's accusations against Fabian and the growing threat from the natives near the mine.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
