What happens

Ellen Johnson, a precise office worker, finds a letter on a city pavement warning Sheila Mannix that a man called Jack means to kill her. The letter names a parade route and an hour, so Ellen races across town looking for the woman, phoning the police only at the last moment. Her search takes her from a rooming house to a drugstore and a bookshop, and finally to a rooftop near the parade. The series Suspense presents this 1956 episode, first broadcast on May 15, with Paula Winslow starring.

A city in the 1950s, including a cafe, a rooming house, a drugstore, the Simmons Book and Stationery Company, and a rooftop above a parade route.

Characters: Ellen Johnson, Sheila Mannix, Jack, Lieutenant, Sergeant Leonard

Listen for: The letter Ellen finds on the pavement, and the clock as she races to reach the parade by noon.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
