What happens

Henry Guilford is a night man at a parking garage who gets into a fight at the Owl Inn outside town. He insists a girl witnessed a struggle over a man who was killed, and that he acted in self-defense. Police find no trace of her, and his attorney, Mr. Hall, works to delay the case while he is tried and convicted of murder. As the appeals run out and the execution date nears, Guilford watches the clock and waits for word that could save him. Suspense, the 1946 episode, is told from Guilford's perspective, with the story's details coming to him through his memories and his trial.

A city and the Owl Inn on the outskirts of town, followed by the courtroom and the state prison where the execution takes place

Characters: Henry Guilford, Mr. Hall, Steve Hoffman, Daisy, Minna, McGill

Listen for: The ticking of the clock as the execution time approaches, and the question of whether the girl witness exists

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
