What happens
In Havana, Bill Scott and his new wife, a former nightclub singer named Mrs. Edward Spinelli, stop for a photograph at Sloppy Joe's, where she is stabbed to death. Scott is found beside her and questioned by a Cuban detective, and the knife he bought earlier in a Chinatown curiosity shop becomes a central puzzle. Fleeing through the dark streets, he hides in a room with a stranger who calls himself Midnight, and together they set out to find the photographer who took their picture. The episode is part of the Suspense series, first broadcast on March 7, 1946.
Havana, Cuba, including Chinatown, Sloppy Joe's bar, and the narrow streets and rooms of the city at night
Characters: Bill Scott, Mrs. Edward Spinelli, Midnight, Inspector Acosta, Edward Spinelli, Guapo
Listen for: The knife bought in the curiosity shop and the three monkeys carved on its handle, which the shopkeeper describes differently to the detective.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
