What happens

Invalid Mrs. Elbert Stevenson, alone in her New York house while her husband works late, accidentally overhears a telephone conversation between two men planning a murder at 11:15 that night. She tries to trace the call, first with the operator and then with the police, while her own telephone begins ringing strangely. Her efforts to get help grow more frantic as the hour approaches. This is the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on November 18, 1948, with Agnes Moorehead in the lead role.

New York City, a Manhattan house on North Sutton Place near the Queensborough Bridge, late on a November night.

Characters: Mrs. Elbert Stevenson, Elbert Stevenson, Operator, Sergeant Martin, Chief Operator, Eloise

Listen for: Mrs. Stevenson's increasingly desperate calls to the operator and the police, and the sound of the telephone ringing in her bedroom.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
