What happens
Mrs. Elbert Stevenson, an invalid alone in her house near a bridge while her husband works late, accidentally overhears a telephone conversation between two men discussing a planned murder. Desperate to stop it, she repeatedly calls the telephone operator, the chief operator, the police and others, but each attempt to alert someone leads to delay, confusion and frustrating obstacles. As the hour of the planned crime draws near, her nerves unravel and she grows increasingly uncertain whom she can trust. This is the Suspense series, a radio drama, first broadcast on August 21, 1943, and starring Agnes Moorehead.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
