What happens
Smiley, a former dishwasher, is released from prison after two and a half years, wrongly convicted on a woman's false accusation. He returns to work at the diner run by his friend Curly, who is kind to him, while the cook Cookie, who dislikes Smiley, resents him. Smiley's hands, once pride of his work, are now rough and damaged, and his bitterness toward women grows. Donald O'Connor stars in this episode of Suspense, first broadcast on August 14, 1947.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
