What happens
Johnny Wilson, a boxer whose career has been taken over by his manager Lefty Wilkins, is cheated out of his fighting future when Lefty signs a younger fighter, Chuck Masters, and sells Johnny's contract. Johnny is pushed aside while Chuck is built up as a hero, and Johnny's wife Daniel grows drawn to the young man. The episode is from the Suspense series, broadcast on February 23, 1950, starring Dick Powell. Johnny, speaking by telephone to a newspaper contact, explains how the trouble began and why he has reached this point.
Duville, Pennsylvania, and later New York City, with a boxing training camp in the Berkshires
Characters: Johnny Wilson, Lefty Wilkins, Chuck Masters, Daniel Wilson, Todd Sloan, Doc Peterson, Carla Wilcox
Listen for: Johnny's telephone confession to Todd Sloan, which frames the story as a flashback
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
