What happens
Harry Norris, a young man who once attended school with Ruth Shaw, holds up a grocery store owned by Mr. Leibowitz and kills the old shopkeeper when he resists. Harry is then surprised by Ruth, who recognizes him as a former classmate, and her presence forces him to rethink his plans. Ruth invites him to chat over coffee, and as the two talk about their shared past, Harry becomes increasingly tense and uncertain about what to do with her. The radio play is a dramatization presented on the Suspense series, with Dan Durrier starring and Charlotte Lawrence as Ruth, and it was broadcast on April 7, 1952.
A grocery store and then Ruth Shaw's apartment in a city neighborhood, with an elevated train line (the L) running past the window.
Characters: Harry Norris, Ruth Shaw, Mr. Leibowitz, Mrs. Leibowitz, Mrs. Dooley, Jimmy, Mona Stark
Listen for: The noise of the passing L train and how Harry's plan depends on it, plus the increasingly tense conversation between Harry and Ruth over coffee.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
