What happens
Rain Tonight is an episode of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on June 29, 1958, with John McIntyre in the lead. Ben, a long-term convict, is determined to escape from a prison, and he needs help. He targets Dominic, a young inmate who is close to his parole date and works in the prison chapel alongside the priest, Father O'Day. Ben pressures Dominic into a plan that depends on the chapel visits and the prison's nightly routine. As a storm gathers outside, the two men head toward the front gate with the priest's bag, and the plan begins to take shape.
A state prison, with cell blocks, a chapel, a yard, and a front gate with a gun tower, during a rainstorm.
Characters: Ben, Dominic, Father O'Day, Kenny, Seth, Bob
Listen for: Ben's plan to use Dominic and the priest to get out through the gate, and how the rain and the prison routine affect it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
