What happens
Edward Marshall and his new wife Sue are celebrating their second anniversary in a bar when Edward notices a man who looks like Sue's former husband, Carl Myers. Sue admits Carl has been unable to accept their divorce and has threatened to kill Edward. Edward goes to the police, but they explain they cannot act without evidence or a witness, and the law offers him little protection. Edward is left feeling trapped and increasingly afraid for his life. This is an episode of the anthology series Suspense, broadcast on September 21, 1958.
A bar and a city street in a large American city, with a police station and a district attorney's office.
Characters: Edward Marshall, Sue Marshall, Carl Myers
Listen for: Listen for the police and district attorney explaining why they cannot arrest Carl without evidence, and Edward's growing desperation.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
