What happens

Harry Graham, a respected man in a small town, is to be honored as the safest driver of the year. On the evening of the ceremony, he is driving a canyon road when a car's headlights appear suddenly, and he swerves to avoid it. Shortly afterward, he sees a car burning far below in the canyon, its horn still blaring. Harry, a widower raising his younger brother Teddy, is supposed to pick up his fiancée Eve and head to the event. Instead he drives on in distress, wrestling with his conscience. The episode is part of the Suspense radio series and was broadcast on December 16, 1948. James Cagney plays the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
