What happens
Harry Carr takes a job stocking the liquor department of a Los Angeles supermarket and soon becomes entangled with Mary, the married woman who checks the groceries. Her husband, the butcher Kraus, grows suspicious and vows to find the man involved. Harry is drawn into a tense rivalry with the vegetable clerk Nick, and the pressure builds as Kraus watches him closely. The story is part of the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on August 10, 1954, and stars Hy Averback as Harry.
A Los Angeles supermarket in the 1950s, with its liquor, grocery, vegetable, bakery and butcher departments.
Characters: Harry Carr, Mary, Kraus, Nick Aruna
Listen for: Kraus's sharpening of his cleaver and his pointed questions to Harry about the man involved with his wife.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
