What happens

Emily Rogers, a lonely widow in the small town of Smallerville, answers an advertisement for a secretarial position and is hired by a Mr. Bruce over the telephone. Her weekly pay arrives as checks with no company name, and she grows uneasy about the arrangement. Bruce then sends her a man called Paul Stevens, who arrives at her house after a driving accident. Dramatic in its build, the story is told as a letter from Emily to her niece. Suspense is presented for Roma Wines, with Dame May Whitty starring as Emily Rogers. The broadcast aired on January 24, 1946.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
