What happens
Mr. Markham, an antique dealer in Bond Street, is visited late one night by a woman who has been blackmailing wealthy clients. Judith Ray demands money, and Ronald Gilbert arrives as the situation turns dangerous. Paul Lucas stars as Markham, with Heather Angel and Bramwell Fletcher, in this Suspense broadcast of May 11, 1943. The story is written by John Dixon Carr. Tensions rise between Markham and his visitors, a shot is fired in the shop, and Ronald and Judith must decide what to do with the body. The guide ends here so as not to reveal how the story resolves.
An antique shop in Bond Street, London, late at night
Characters: Charles Markham, Judith Ray, Ronald Gilbert
Listen for: The ticking and chiming of the clocks in the shop, and the tension in the dialogue as the blackmail negotiation turns violent.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
