What happens
Sam Boston, a lawyer, learns that his partner George Perry has been named the next district attorney, and his resentment grows as he also loses Alice, the woman he loves, to George. When Boston hears that George is to try a case, he pays juror Screed ten thousand dollars to turn the jury against the defendant. Screed then reports to the court that Perry tried to bribe him, and Perry is convicted and imprisoned. Boston later tries to win Alice while George, released, seeks the man who framed him. The story is told through Boston's narration and his dealings with Screed, Alice and George.
A city with a courthouse and a law office, around 1944 to 1947, including a dingy kitchen where a dead man sits.
Characters: Sam Boston, George Perry, Alice, Screed, Police Chief Martin, Harry Polk
Listen for: Boston's narration about his jealousy of George, and Screed's report to the court of the bribe.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
