What happens
Dick Payne, a machinist who has been out of work for months, is evicted from his apartment and quarrels with his wife Pauline about money. Payne goes to see his former employer, Mr. Burroughs, demanding payment for an invention he claims to have made. The confrontation turns violent, and Payne's anger escalates as he tries to escape with the money, drawing him into a chain of further trouble. Suspense, the CBS anthology series, presented this play on October 27, 1949, with Victor Mature in the lead role. The story follows Payne's desperate attempts to reach a train and start a new life in San Francisco with Pauline.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
