What happens

Mrs. Russell, a widow who works in the Hillmar building, becomes uneasy after a series of meals at Henry's small cafe. Henry, the quiet proprietor, has grown increasingly suspicious and strange toward her. Her dinners there bring a growing sense of danger as Henry watches her closely and speaks of his son killed in the war. Suspense is the series, and the play was broadcast on October 20, 1949, starring Betty Davis with Elliot Reed.

A small cafe half a block from the Hillmar building, and later a dark room in Henry's house.

Characters: Mrs. Russell, Henry

Listen for: Henry's unsettling remarks at the cafe and the sound of the clock as Mrs. Russell waits in the dark.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
