What happens
Evelyn Harris, driving home through a heavy rainstorm, gives a ride to a young man who has just left the state penitentiary. He confesses that he means to kill a man and seems to know who she is. Evelyn is uneasy, and their conversation grows tense as the car heads toward the city. Ava Gardner plays Evelyn in this episode of Suspense, the radio series of thrillers, first broadcast on May 1, 1947, and presented by Roma Wines.
A rain-soaked country road and then a city, late on a Sunday in the late 1940s.
Characters: Evelyn Harris, Sullivan, Ralph Harris
Listen for: Sullivan's threat and Evelyn's shifting reactions as she realizes who he is.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
