What happens

Mildred Anderson, the wife of Ed Anderson, lives a quiet, controlled life in a Richmond home. Her nephew Roger is found dead in his car in the garage, with carbon monoxide poisoning and head wounds, and the coroner returns an open verdict. Mildred hires a young unemployed veteran, Duncan Shaw, to do odd jobs around the house, and their relationship grows quickly. Ed is tense and irritable, and their marriage strains as Mildred begins to doubt her husband.

A house in Richmond, in the 1940s, with a garage, a kitchen and an office where Ed works.

Characters: Mildred Anderson, Ed Anderson, Roger, Duncan Shaw, Millie

Listen for: Listen for the open verdict on Roger's death, the arrival of Duncan Shaw, and Ed's nervous reactions as Mildred grows suspicious.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
