What happens

Tommy, a nightclub pianist, is persuaded by his lover Anne Thomas to kill her wealthy, abusive husband so they can be together. Following a plan they rehearsed carefully, Tommy goes to the apartment on 55th Street, shoots the husband, and stages a robbery by strewing jewelry and wrecking the room. Anne strikes him to make the scene look real. Tommy slips out by the back stairs, disposes of the stolen items, and returns to his club, where he plays piano as if nothing happened. The episode of Suspense, broadcast December 8, 1949, stars Mickey Rooney in the lead role.

Characters: Tommy, Anne Thomas, Dan Ryan, Mr. Lee, Jimmy

Listen for: Tommy's calm, methodical narration of the murder plan and the drumbeat sound effect that returns whenever his nerves give way

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
