What happens

Reporter Kelly, a newspaper man who has never been jailed, is touring a state penitentiary for a Sunday feature when the captain of the guard shows him the old cellblock. Inside, prisoners led by Conrad Allen seize the block, overpower the guards and take Kelly hostage. Allen makes demands and uses his hostage to get his story to the Capital News Telegram before the morning edition. As deadlines pass, the mutineers grow more desperate and the prison administration must decide how to respond. This is an episode of the CBS radio series Suspense, first broadcast on July 12, 1959, starring John Lund.

The old cellblock of a state prison, built more than a hundred years ago, and the prison's warden's office.

Characters: Mr. Kelly, Captain Wolf, Conrad Allen, Big Joe, Limpy, Maguire, Warden, Wiley Brooks

Listen for: Listen for Conrad Allen's demands, the deadlines he sets for the warden, and Kelly's exchanges with the mutineers as the standoff escalates.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
