What happens
Sheryl meets Herb, a quiet man who confides that she once had a husband who died. She tells him how she and Walter, a restless and heavy-drinking man, became involved, married, and settled into a house where Walter increasingly stayed out late and drank. Sheryl tries to fill her lonely days and make the marriage work, but Walter grows more hostile toward her. Her account to Herb reaches the night Walter's life ended, and Herb then proposes marriage, reassuring Sheryl that everything will be different. The episode, from the Suspense series, first aired on August 9, 1959, starring Kathy Lewis.

Characters: Sheryl, Herb, Walter, Molly
Listen for: Sheryl's account of her marriage to Walter and the events of the night he died
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
