What happens
Philip and his bride Janice, archaeologists working in the Peruvian jungle with the elderly Dr. Clayton and a native guide named Huwan, open a burial mound and discover a golden door. Following an inscription about light entering through shafts of God, they reach a hidden tunnel beyond the door. The tunnel is riddled with pivot stones and counterbalanced traps, and the two cross a chamber of old bones and gold ingots while the air grows stale. Working by flashlight and a carefully marked chart, they keep trying to find a way forward and back. The Suspense series aired this episode, Door of Gold, on February 10, 1957, starring Myron McCormick.
A burial mound in the Peruvian Andes and a hidden tunnel beneath it, with the jungle nearby.
Characters: Philip, Janice, Dr. Clayton, Huwan
Listen for: Listen for the sound of the stone traps, the matches and flashlights running low, and the tension in Philip and Janice's careful counting of blocks.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
