What happens

Dr. Patrick Corey, a scientist working in his laboratory, keeps a casebook of his experiments. After a monkey's brain dies, he is called to operate on a critically injured air crash survivor, Donovan. Corey keeps Donovan's brain alive in a device he has built, and he begins to believe the isolated brain is communicating with him. His wife Janice and his assistant David grow alarmed by his obsession. This is the first part of the Suspense radio play Donovan's Brain, based on Curt Siodmak's novel, with Orson Welles as Dr. Corey. It was first broadcast on May 18, 1944.

A laboratory in a United States town, and later the home of the Corey family, in the 1940s.

Characters: Dr. Patrick Corey, Donovan, Janice Corey, David, Dr. Schratz

Listen for: Corey's casebook entries and the tapping code he uses to communicate with the brain in its glass container.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
