What happens
Vicki Kent, a middle-aged housewife, becomes convinced that her husband Walter is having an affair with his business associate, Martha Coles. After her doctor dismisses her dreams and fears as idleness, Vicki's suspicions grow as Walter neglects her, favors Martha's company, and sends her a monogrammed cigarette case as an anniversary gift. When Walter abruptly joins Martha on an ocean liner bound for Paris, Vicki follows them aboard. The story follows her growing sense of humiliation and dread as she begins to feel increasingly isolated and tormented in her own home.
A suburban home and an ocean liner, the Champlain, bound for Paris, in the early 1960s.
Characters: Vicki Kent, Walter Kent, Martha Coles, Dr. Randau, Helen
Listen for: Vicki's dream of a sign with two faces, and the monogrammed cigarette case given as an anniversary gift.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
