What happens

Bert Gavin, a teletype repairman for Consolidated Press, rides the commuter train home to Laurel Creek, where his unhappy marriage and a house beside the tracks weigh on him. After a bitter argument with his wife, Alice, he makes an abrupt decision that sets the story in motion. Over the course of the evening, Gavin tries to establish where he was and whom he met, relying on fellow passengers and the conductor. J. Carol Nash stars in this episode of the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on August 1, 1946, and sponsored by Roma Wines.

Characters: Bert Gavin, Alice, Alvin, Detective Inspector Daniels, Elmer Russell, Sam Cartwright, Jack, Chuck

Listen for: Gavin's efforts to prove where he was while the conductor and card players repeatedly fail to recognize him, and the trains rumbling past the house.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
