What happens

On a Sunday in Lansing, California, Ralph Clark leaves home after a quarrel with his wife Mary over a dime given to their child. Lacking any change, he cannot make a telephone call and is held on suspicion by Officer Brady. In the town jail he meets Phillips, a bank robber from Nevada who is awaiting transfer. Clark tries to pay for his release with a dime, and the tense exchange with the prisoners and the officers escalates. The episode is part of the Suspense series, with Lloyd Bridges starring.

Characters: Ralph Clark, Mary, Officer Brady, Sergeant Ross, Phillips, Jerry Diamond

Listen for: The dime that Clark needs for a phone call and its repeated significance throughout the story

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
