What happens

Arthur Grange receives a late telegram summoning him to Turret House, where Sir William Brent, a retired head of English Criminal Investigation, has gathered a small group of guests. Sir William explains that the house was the scene of a murder two years earlier, in which Martha Ferguson was killed and her nephew John Bedford was suspected but could not be convicted. Sir William has rented the house from Bedford and has prepared a plan to draw out a confession. This is the first part of a Suspense episode first broadcast on 3 August 1944, with Donald Crisp and John Loder in the leading roles.

Turret House, an old red brick mansion in England, on a windy November evening, two years after a murder.

Characters: Arthur Grange, Sir William Brent, Roberta Stone, John Bedford, Martha Ferguson, Len, Lane, Hilda

Listen for: Sir William's plan to trap John Bedford at dinner on the anniversary of the murder, and Bedford's reaction when the dinner guests begin to behave strangely.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
