What happens

Julie and George are longtime rivals, and after a bitter argument in Julie's office, Julie ends up dead. George knows Lieutenant Larkin will suspect him first, so he frantically searches for someone to vouch for his whereabouts that afternoon. He tries Leo at the bar, his old flame Joni, a sick friend named Timmy at the hospital, and finally his landlady, Mrs. Edinger. Mickey Rooney stars in this Suspense play, broadcast on January 4, 1951, on the CBS radio series. The story follows George's desperate scramble against the clock as Larkin closes in.

A city neighborhood in the afternoon, including Julie's office above a dance school, a bar, an apartment, a hospital, and George's boarding house.

Characters: George, Julie, Lieutenant Larkin, Leo, Joni, Timmy, Mrs. Edinger

Listen for: George's frantic countdown as he tries to build an alibi before six o'clock.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
