What happens

Henry Corner, a young Englishman staying in Paris with his friend Gerald Tichner, wanders into a shabby gaming room near the Palais Royal. Henry's luck at the tables is extraordinary, and he is soon winning heavily and accepting drinks from the proprietor, Fabian Nero. Given coffee by the woman Millie Prudham, Henry begins to feel unwell and is taken upstairs to a rooming house above the game room. Gerald falls into a drunken sleep, leaving Henry alone in a room with an unusual four-post bed. This is an episode of the CBS radio series Suspense, first broadcast on June 7, 1954, starring Peter Lofford. Adapted from a story by Wilkie Collins.

Paris, in the neighborhood of the Palais Royal, and a rooming house above a gaming room

Characters: Henry Corner, Gerald Tichner, Fabian Nero, Millie Prudham

Listen for: Henry's growing unease in the strange bed, and the sound of the canopy moving above him

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
