What happens
Mark Colander, a businessman, hires a hired killer named Maybe to shoot his partner Carl Longman, a fellow real estate dealer. The two plan the job at a shop across from an apartment house, timing the shot for when Carl leaves at eight o'clock. Mark's motives are tangled, and the killer begins to question the work. The episode is a suspense play from the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on June 12, 1956, starring William Conrad and Stacey Harris.
A city and its suburbs, including a leased shop across from an apartment house, a quiet neighborhood near Helmsley, and the Colander apartment.
Characters: Mark Colander, Carl Longman, Maybe, Francis, Miss Bonner, Dr. Borden, Josh Parker, Mrs. Parker
Listen for: Pay attention to the hired killer's shifting attitude toward the job and to Mark's reasons for wanting his partner dead.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
