What happens
Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen aboard the old clipper ship Clara M. examine a piece of oil silk found hidden on board, which proves to be a map marked with a location near Sumatra. The map, which refers to a buried pirate treasure, catches the attention of Teak Barnaby, the ship's first mate, who has secretly signed on to the voyage because he believes the treasure is aboard. Barnaby confronts Kent and Jimmy, threatens them with a knife, and forces Kent to hand over the map. Kent, Jimmy and Pug Flanagan are then left locked below deck, unable to escape.
