What happens

Superman investigates a drought in Freeville that threatens a community of war veteran farmers. After intercepting a plane flying strange patterns in the sky, he learns that Ed Clayton, a senatorial candidate, is behind the drought. Superman rescues Lois Lane and Abner Sykes from gunmen at a mountain cabin and delivers the captured men to state police. Back at Clayton's mansion, Clayton confronts Clark Kent and Major Renshaw, and the episode ends with Clayton holding a pistol. This is part 16 of The Adventures of Superman, first broadcast on February 11, 1947.

Freeville and the surrounding mountains, a mountain cabin, and Ed Clayton's mansion on the river, with a brief return to Metropolis.

Characters: Superman, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Abner Sykes, Ed Clayton, Major Renshaw, Perry White

Listen for: Clayton's confession-denying standoff with Clark Kent and Major Renshaw in the mansion library, and the cliffhanger as Clayton aims his pistol.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
