What happens

Reporter Clark Kent and his editor Perry White of the Daily Planet have just received a threatening call from the Yellow Mask, who promises to destroy the newspaper's offices within 24 hours. Meanwhile, scientist Dr. Sven Dahlgren shows a visitor his laboratory and explains his new atomic beam machine, which can reduce solid objects to dust at a distance. The visitor reveals himself to be a criminal intent on seizing the device and gaining control of the world. Dahlgren is left alarmed as the Daily Planet staff try to connect the threat to his stolen invention. This is the opening installment of The Adventures of Superman, first aired on February 26, 1940.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
