What happens
Attorney John Francis O'Connell is summoned to the estate of the wealthy financier J.C. Walker, who has recently returned from abroad. Walker's last will leaves ten million dollars in trust to the gifted pianist Nadia Winter, on the condition that she lives alone in his house and never marries. O'Connell is asked to inform her of the terms, and he watches as her ambition and her growing isolation begin to shape her life. This is the Strange Wills series, first broadcast on June 8, 1946, with Warren William as narrator and star. The story is told by O'Connell as he recalls the years that follow.
An Eastern city on the Atlantic seaboard and the Walker country estate sixty miles away, with an earlier period in Vienna
Characters: John Francis O'Connell, J.C. Walker, Nadia Winter
Listen for: Nadia's piano playing, which grows more savage as the story goes on
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
