What happens

Francis X. Blair, a wealthy widower, disinherits his son Paul after both men fall in love with the same woman, Phyllis Lamar, and Phyllis chooses Paul. His lawyer, John Francis O'Connell, is asked to draw up a will leaving the son one dollar. Blair dies still bitter, and Paul and Phyllis marry and try to build a new life. Later Paul begins to believe his dead father is laughing at him from beyond the grave, and his health and career begin to collapse. Warren William stars in this episode of the Strange Wills series, first broadcast on June 22, 1946.

A wealthy man's penthouse apartment, a small furnished apartment on the outskirts of town, a radio agency, and a mental institution, in an unspecified American city.

Characters: Francis X. Blair, Paul Blair, Phyllis Lamar, John Francis O'Connell, Mr. Henley, Dr.

Listen for: Paul's belief that he hears his dead father laughing, and the final scene in which he regains consciousness on hearing his own radio show.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
