What happens

Two detectives, Sam Murphy and Bill Smith, are hired by the aged Joshua Crawford, who lives alone in a lonely mansion on a hill. Crawford says seven men murdered his daughter and son-in-law years earlier and that he has set a trap for them using jewels kept in a cellar vault. He offers the detectives the jewels if they help him punish the men he has named. The detectives agree and accept the bait, but when they open the vault, they find themselves trapped inside by a mechanism Crawford has wired through the house, and they begin to realise the trap may be meant for them.

A lonely old mansion on a windswept hill, with a cellar vault, at night.

Characters: Joshua Crawford, Sam Murphy, Bill Smith, Frank, Big Jim Donovan, Frigga Thompson, Nikki Lavender, Tony Morton

Listen for: The detectives' realisation that the vault door has locked behind them, and Crawford's voice coming through the loudspeaker.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
