What happens

Dr. Pavel Gordeevich Kurin returns to his Russian collective farm village near the Polish border, where he is writing a history of the village in June 1941. His young friends Demian and Marina set off on a walking trip with Klavdia, and they are caught in a German bombing raid. The village Soviet, led by Marina's father Konrad, organizes resistance, and Demian's father Boris is killed while bringing guns back to the village. The broadcast presents the first and second acts of the Screen Guild Theater adaptation of The North Star, with Walter Houston as Dr. Kurin, Anne Baxter as Marina, Jane Withers as Klavdia and Farley Granger as Demian. The story continues as the villagers prepare to fight the occupying German forces.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
