Nora Shelley rents her country cottage for the summer to Professor Michael Lightcap, a Boston law dean, and then finds herself harboring Dilge, a man on the run after a mill fire and a killing in town. Professor Lightcap, despite his stiff manner, becomes entangled in the affair as Dilge hides in the attic while the professor works on a book about the law. The episode is from the Screen Guild Theater, broadcast on May 13, 1946, and stars Virginia Bruce as Nora, Alan Jocelyn as Dilge, and Ronald Colman as Michael Lightcap.

A country cottage on the outskirts of a small town, with a nearby town where a woolen mill has burned.

Characters: Nora Shelley, Michael Lightcap, Dilge, Leopold, Joseph, Senator Boyd

Listen for: Lightcap's lectures on the law and Nora's teasing exchanges with him as they settle into an uneasy household.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
