What happens

In the 1945 Screen Guild Theater play The Parson of Panamint, the early Western mining town of Panamint has grown wealthy from gold, and its mayor, Chuckawalla Bill Redfield, brings home a young preacher, Philip Ferrell, to serve the church. Philip shelters the town drunk, Crab Apple Jones, and the saloon singer Mary Mallory, and he clashes with the town's respectable men over their hypocrisy and the safety of the mine. The Screen Guild Theater series aired the play on June 11, 1945, with Ellen Drew, Charlie Ruggles and Don DeFore in the leading roles. The story is part of a dramatized presentation of Peter B. Kyne's tale.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
