What happens
Perry Antwhistle and Andy Kirby, two young hitchhikers, are traveling from Kansas to San Diego to join the Navy when they pick up a woman named Catherine after her car breaks down. The pair soon reach the naval base, where they meet an admiral who believes a family curse follows the Antwhistle name and that singing brings disaster to any ship. Perry's luck seems tied to the jinx, and the Navy's rules complicate his plans to enlist. Bing Crosby stars in this Screen Guild Theater broadcast with Jean Parker, Andy Devine, Chick Chandler and Raymond Walburn, presented on the Gulf Theater program hosted by Roger Pryor, originally broadcast December 10, 1939.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
