What happens

Mr. Chipping, a shy and unpopular schoolmaster at Brookfield School in England, is passed over for promotion and feels he has failed as a teacher. On a walking holiday in the Alps he is caught in fog and meets Catherine Ellis, a lively young woman who has also lost her way. They share a coat on the mountain, and their friendship quickly grows into romance. Mr. Chipping's modest life at the school is transformed by her warmth and courage. This is the Screen Guild Theater's broadcast of James Hilton's novel, adapted for radio, with Basil Rathbone and Greer Garson in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
