What happens
Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a small-town citizen of Summerfield, is called for jury duty in the trial of Louis Barton, accused of robbing the First National Bank. Someone sends an anonymous offer of one thousand dollars to any juror who will vote for acquittal, and the jurors' nerves and suspicions grow as the trial proceeds. Gildersleeve's household is thrown into confusion over the matter. This episode of Screen Guild Theater, broadcast on August 13, 1945, stars Harold Peary as Gildersleeve in this radio adaptation of the Gildersleeve story.
Summerfield, a small town; a courtroom, the Gildersleeve household, and the jury room
Characters: Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, Louis Barton, Judge Hooker, Leroy, Uncle Mort, Bertie, Peevey, Potter
Listen for: The anonymous letter offering a thousand dollars to a juror, and how the household reacts when it turns up
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
