What happens

Insurance claims man Barton Keyes investigates a suspicious death, but the story is told by Walter Neff, an agent for Pacific All Risk Insurance, who is dictating a confession from his office while wounded. Neff recounts how Phyllis Dietrichson, the wife of a client, draws him into a scheme to sell her husband an accident policy. The Screen Guild Theater presents this adaptation of James M. Cain's novel Double Indemnity, first broadcast on March 5, 1945, with Barbara Stanwick, Fred MacMurray and Walter Abel in the leading roles.

Los Angeles, 1938, including Neff's office, the Dietrichson house, and Neff's apartment.

Characters: Walter Neff, Phyllis Dietrichson, Barton Keyes, Mr. Dietrichson

Listen for: Neff's narration as he recounts how he first met Phyllis Dietrichson and how their scheme took shape.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
