What happens

Ray Smith, a dry goods store worker in Cincinnati, meets the cosmopolitan salesman Walter Saxel at a railroad station. Their chance acquaintance grows into a romance when he stays over in town and the two spend a day and night together. Walter soon has to leave for Louisville, where a fiancée awaits him, and Ray is left waiting. Years later they meet again in New York, and their relationship continues in a quiet apartment on a back street. The Screen Guild Players present this radio adaptation of the Universal film Back Street, based on the story by Fannie Hurst, starring Martha Scott and Charles Boyer.

Cincinnati, a steamboat wharf, and later New York City, spanning several years

Characters: Ray Smith, Walter Saxel, Ed Porter, Harry Niles, Richard Saxel, Uncle Felix, Corinne

Listen for: Ray's first meeting with Walter at the railroad station, and his surprise return to New York years later

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
