What happens

Count Alexei Vronsky and Anna Karenina begin a secret love affair in Russia, despite her marriage to the government minister Karenin. Their meetings grow bolder, drawing gossip from Anna's husband's circle, and Karenin warns Anna of the damage a scandal could do to her son Sergei. The episode is a radio adaptation of Tolstoy's novel, broadcast as part of the Screen Guild Theater on October 30, 1944, with Gregory Peck as Vronsky and Ingrid Bergman as Anna. The drama follows the couple through a trip to Venice and their growing unhappiness at home.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
