What happens

Jeff and Nancy Troy move into a basement apartment at 39 Gay Street in New York, where strange noises and odd happenings unsettle them. Jeff quarrels with a man in a restaurant, and the next morning that man is found dead in their garden. Inspector Hankins questions the couple and the other residents of the building as Jeff, a novelist, tries to uncover what is really going on. Screen Guild Theater presented this adaptation of the Columbia Pictures comedy mystery, first broadcast on April 8, 1946, with Claire Trevor as Nancy and Brian Donlevy as Jeff.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
