What happens

Screen Guild Theater is a variety program of songs, comedy sketches and recitations, presented by the Gulf oil companies for the Motion Picture Relief Fund. George Murphy hosts and introduces a tutor, Professor Hymer, who coaches the actor George Raft on Shakespeare and drama. The sketches include a short Romeo and Juliet rehearsal and a western comedy, The Wide Open Spaces or Two Gun Sam, in which a lovestruck outlaw tries to go straight. Musical numbers and Bob Burns' folksy monologues fill the rest of the program. The episode first aired on 1939-04-02.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
