What happens

Professor Gilbert Sedley, a psychology professor at Midwest University, publishes a book arguing that women do not secretly want to be dominated by men. Newspaper columnist Martha Motherly, actually reporter Kate Farrell, mocks his theory in print, and the reactions to it are soon widespread. Kate's editor, Joe McBride, sends her to infiltrate the professor's life, and their encounters grow increasingly tangled. Starring Ray Milan as Sedley and Mary Jane Croft as Kate Farrell, this 1949 comedy is an episode of the Screen Directors Playhouse, broadcast on May 1, 1949, on NBC.

Midwest University and the city newspaper offices in Midwest City, around the time of the professor's controversial book.

Characters: Gilbert Sedley, Kate Farrell, Joe McBride, Agnes Miller, Dr. Dawson, Rita LaMay

Listen for: Sedley's stiff, formal manner clashing with Kate's playful bluntness during their first classroom and park exchanges.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
